
Richard Benson Plehn is an Associate Attorney at David R. Maddox & Associates, an establishment with nearly 40 years of experience in family law litigation.
Rick is an experienced advocate in the area of family law, and is a mediator on the Utah Court roster. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Rick studied interpersonal communication and conflict resolution, and was trained as a conflict mediator and facilitator.
While at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, Rick was an editor for the BYU Journal of Public Law, a member the school’s Moot Court team, and was a quarter-finalist in both the Moot Court and Trial Advocacy competitions.
Rick served as the President of the Family Law Society and was Vice President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society. Rick represents clients in all facets of family law cases, including divorce, paternity, parental rights, adoption, child support and custody, alimony, protective orders, contempt, modifications, and mediation.
Rick has received praise from opposing attorneys for his competence, professionalism, and ability to work with attorneys to get results for clients facing sensitive family law disputes. While passionate about advocating for parents in sensitive domestic litigation.
Rick also has extensive experience in Landlord-Tenant conflicts as a former caseworker and mediator at the BYU Center for Conflict Resolution, and is experienced in municipal law and local government as a former law clerk for the Provo City Attorney’s Office.
Rick grew up in Sandy, and enjoys spending time exploring Utah with his wife, young son, and their perpetual puppy.
