Richard H. Berney focuses his practice primarily on representing clients in commercial leasing transactions. Richard’s activities usually involve representing landlords in their leases, operation, and management of their office and residential buildings and shopping centers principally in the New York Metropolitan area, but also in other areas of the country.
Richard also represents office and retail tenants in the negotiation of their leases and other agreements relating to landlord/tenant relationships. He has handled numerous major lease negotiations involving space in excess of 100,000 sq. ft. for some of the largest and most respected New York City landlords and tenants.
Richard has also lectured frequently on real estate leasing topics and has been an instructor at the Real Estate Institute at New York University. Richard earned his Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in 1982 and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1985.
EXPERIENCE :
- Ongoing representation of owners of first class office buildings in New York City in connection with numerous office and retail lease and lease-related transactions of all sizes.
- Represent several prominent New York City landlords in the leasing of mixed-use buildings throughout the City in connection with various sizes of lease-related transactions.
- Represented a national financial services firm in connection with lease negotiations of its headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, totaling over 200,000 sq. ft. as well as in the negotiation of other major lease transactions throughout the United States.
- Represented a national retail apparel chain in connection with all of its lease negotiation matters throughout the United States.
- Represent numerous national and international architectural and engineering firms in connection with the negotiation of leases for office space throughout the United States.
- Represent a major Italian shoe and apparel firm in the leasing of its flagship location on Fifth Avenue in New York City as well as other retail locations throughout the United States.
