Richard D. Bohm is of counsel, Co-Chair of the firm’s Media and Telecommunications Group and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Securities and Corporate Governance Groups. He co-founded and was Co-Chair of the firm’s Private Equity Group. He also founded and was Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. Mr. Bohm has a varied transactional practice, regularly advising clients with respect to acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, public offerings, licensing and other corporate matters.
Mr. Bohm regularly represents boards of directors, officers and controlling families and other shareholders of public and private companies, including with respect to AMC Networks, The Associated Press, Cablevision Systems Corporation, The Estee Lauder Companies, Greater Media, Madison Square Garden and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, in matters relating to strategic planning and corporate governance. Mr. Bohm also regularly advises families who control public and private companies regarding family governance and issues associated with transitioning family control from one generation to the next.
Mr. Bohm is ranked as a leading media M&A lawyer by The Legal 500 US (2017) and by Chambers USA (2018), where he receives plaudits from clients for his “excellent judgment,” and they highlight his ability to “show patience in very trying circumstances.”
Mr. Bohm joined Debevoise in 1978 and became a partner in 1986. He received his B.A. from Stanford University in 1975, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors, and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1978.
