Robert Nelson has more than 40 years’ experience as a commercial and real estate lawyer. He has represented individuals and publicly- and privately-held companies in a wide range of commercial transactions and disputes, including the organization and governance of business entities, internal disputes among entity owners, direct and derivative claims, the acquisition and disposition of business enterprises and assets, and litigation and arbitrations involving the interpretation and enforcement of commercial contracts, and claims under the Michigan Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act and the Michigan Builder’s Trust Fund Act.
A substantial part of Robert’s practice over the years centered on the representation of institutional lenders in the negotiation of financing documents, the creation and enforcement of liens and security interests, commercial loan participation and syndication agreements, inter-creditor agreements, commercial and standby letters of credit, and other commercial contracts.
Robert has also represented owners of property bordering the Great Lakes, inland lakes and other bodies of water, clients in the acquisition and disposition of interests in timber, minerals, oil and gas, and other natural resources, and developers of single and multi-family residential projects and commercial, office, and industrial properties in the full range of their activities, including the acquisition, development, and disposition of land, and related zoning, financing, and leasing activities.
Bob is also the chairperson of the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group and Business and Corporate Practice Group.
