Roberto J. Fernandez is a patent agent and law clerk with Foley & Lardner LLP. Roberto has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications both in the U.S. and internationally.
Roberto has detailed knowledge of various automotive technologies, including electric vehicle systems, aftertreatment systems, and various engine systems, building management systems, control architectures, and consumer products.
Roberto has also prepared and prosecuted numerous design applications and routinely researches developments in design law.
Roberto studied at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (B.S. mechanical engineering, 2014) and the University of Notre Dame (M.S. patent law, 2015), and currently is enrolled at the Chicago-Kent College of Law (J.D., 2019 expected).
While at Chicago-Kent, Roberto has earned several CALI awards, including in patent law and international intellectual property law. Roberto is a member of the firm’s Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice and Design Rights Group.
Roberto has held positions as the lead research and development technician and sales engineer for a leader in the firefighting industry. During his time with that company, he designed, tested and built one of the company’s flagship products. In addition, Roberto served as a standards designer intern for a Fortune 500 company.
