Ruben Tarango is a partner in the San Diego office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Toxic Tort & Environmental Litigation Practice. Mr. Tarango represents clients in high profile complex litigation matters concerning toxic torts, environmental law and product liability cases in state and federal courts.

He has represented clients in chemical exposure cases including diacetyl, benzene, adhesives, and solvents. With respect to environmental cases he has represented clients in ground water contamination cases and residential and commercial mold cases. With respect to product liability cases he has represented clients in cases involving industrial equipment in the lumber and landscaping industries.

Mr. Tarango also represents clients in the defense of professional liability matters including attorney, accountant, financial planner, insurance broker and agent and medical healthcare provider malpractice cases.

Representative Cases :

In 2012, along with senior trial partner, Peter L. Garchie, Mr. Tarango tried the first diacetyl (butter flavoring) case in California brought by a worker employed in a food flavoring manufacturing plant against numerous manufacturers and distributors of diacetyl.

All of the co-defendants settled before or at the commencement of trial. At the conclusion of trial, plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury to award $27 million dollars. The jury rendered a defense verdict for Mr. Tarango’s client. Velasquez v. FEMA Los Angeles Superior Court case number BC 370319.

In a professional liability matter concerning a financial planning/insurance broker client, the California Court of Appeal in a published opinion upheld the ruling of the trial court granting Mr. Tarango’s client’s demurrer to plaintiffs’ complaint without leave to amend base upon plaintiffs’ failure to state a cause of action for fraud and breach of fiduciary duty. Brakke v. In a professional liability matter concerning an attorney’s alleged malpractice, the California Court of Appeal in a published opinion upheld the ruling of the trial court granting Mr. Tarango’s client’s motion for summary judgment on plaintiffs’ complaint based upon the running of the statute of limitations on plaintiffs’ claims. Truong v. Glasser 181 Cal. App. 4th 102.
