Russell Rutherford advises clients in commercial litigation, bankruptcy and government relations matters in Alabama and Washington, D.C. In his litigation practice, he counsels clients on a full range of commercial disputes, including traditional types of disputes as well as more complex litigation.
His clients include companies in the financial services, insurance, housing, construction, health care and other sectors. Russell has taken cases to trial in both state and federal court and has handled appeals. He has also employed alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, on behalf of clients.
Russell advises on bankruptcy matters under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code and provides counsel on loan workouts involving distressed assets. In his government relations practice, Russell advises clients on regulatory matters, with a focus on health care issues including Certificate of Need proceedings.
Russell is also deeply involved in numerous philanthropic efforts and community engagements. He serves on the St. Vincent’s Foundation Junior Advisory Board (as past Chair) and is a past member of the Red Mountain Park Junior Board of Directors.
He has volunteered with the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program, Project H.E.L.P., Project Homeless Connect, the pro bono program administered by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, and Habitat for Humanity.
