Adept at navigating New York workers’ compensation laws and standards as well as federal disability statutes and regulations, Ryan personally and proactively guides his clients through all stages of the workers’ compensation claims process, from the initial evaluation of a claim through defense preparation, witness and expert depositions, hearings, and appeals. He is also experienced in drafting and negotiating favorable settlements for his clients.

He has successfully briefed and argued cases involving various disability claims before the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second and Third Departments. In addition to claims-handling and litigation, Ryan advises human resources and risk management departments and professionals with major companies on workers’ compensation, disability, and other benefits issues, with an eye toward loss prevention and mitigation.
Ryan’s experience extends to matters involving Social Security Disability, the New York State and Local Retirement System, General Municipal Law Sections 207-a and 207-c, and benefits under the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (Zadroga Act).
Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree at Indiana University Bloomington and earned his J.D. at New York Law School, where he was president of the Media, Entertainment, and Sports Law Association. While in law school he gained experience in a series of legal internships spanning general litigation, music publishing, performance rights, television and radio, and artist management and marketing.
