Ryan T. Ward is an associate in the Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group in Washington, DC. He works primarily in the software, Internet, medical device, and telecommunications fields.
Ryan brings a wide variety of technical knowledge and experience to his patent prosecution, right-to-use, and infringement analyses. An electrical engineer by trade, he began his career testing, building, and debugging low power RF transceivers.
In addition to a full-time legal practice, Ryan is currently enrolled at Georgetown University pursuing a Master of Science in Finance degree, with an expected graduation of May 2020. He regularly prosecutes patents associated with high-frequency trading, demand modeling, and other aspects of FinTech (Financial Technology).
Similarly, he has written dozens of patent applications which make use of blockchain, machine learning, and augmented analytics for client-specific solutions to real-world problems.
Before law school, he worked full-time as a systems engineer for L-3 Communications, helping to manage hardware and software upgrades, component replacement, and system integration for satellite and line-of-sight communication systems.
During this time Ryan spent several months overseas supporting the U.S. military, ensuring mission critical equipment was working correctly and, when it was not working correctly, making real-time engineering adjustments to ensure mission success.
Ryan is educated in human physiology which, together with electrical engineering, has allowed him to successfully prosecute many medical device patent applications. Additional areas of prosecution focus include speech processing and full-duplex communication systems/standards.
