Samantha L. Mazo has more than a decade of zoning experience in representing clients in all aspects of the development life cycle. She has worked on matters spanning from conducting zoning due diligence prior to purchase, to processing cases for development approvals before the District of Columbia’s Board of Zoning Adjustment, Zoning Commission, Historic Preservation Review Board, and D.C. Court of Appeals, to coordinating construction permitting approvals from the District’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.
Samantha advances her clients’ interests to governmental and community stakeholders in order to achieve viable and comprehensive development outcomes. She also works closely with other members of the development team to prepare architectural plans and other materials necessary for presentation to the District and local community.
A third-generation Washingtonian, Samantha is involved in the community, having served on the board of a regional chamber of commerce and chaired a local transportation advisory commission. Samantha is currently on the Steering Committee for the D.C. Bar Association’s Real Estate, Housing, and Land Use Community.
She frequently presents on matters relating to Washington, D.C., zoning and permitting. Samantha was named as one Washington D.C.’s top “35 under 35” in Washington, D.C., by Bisnow Media.
Samantha earned her J.D., cum laude, from George Washington University Law School, her master’s degree in modern history from Oxford University, and her undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
EXPERIENCE :
- Obtained a Zoning Administrator Determination Letter for new apartment house with more than 140 units near Meridian Hill Park in Northwest Washington, D.C.
- Obtained necessary zoning relief for multiple projects, including homeless shelters and parks, for the Department of General Services in Washington, D.C.
- Obtained zoning approvals, including parking and loading relief, for a new hotel with more than 200 rooms near Mount Vernon Square in Northwest Washington, D.C.
- Obtained necessary zoning relief for the expansion of an office building near Dupont Circle in Northwest Washington, D.C.
- Obtained Planned Unit Development approval from the DC Zoning Commission for a new hotel with more than 200 rooms near Union Market in Northeast Washington, D.C.
