
Prior to joining Higgs Fletcher & Mack, Samuel S. Baxter served as associate general counsel from 1999 to 2005 for Metabolife International, Inc., a large dietary supplement company based in San Diego.
He played a key role in the establishment of the in-house legal department and was responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of all litigation, including ephedra mass tort, products liability, breach of contract, anti-trust, unfair competition, and employment.
He also directly supervised the hiring and management of outside counsel in approximately 30 states in over 500 separate lawsuits. A member of the business litigation, tort and insurance, products liability, and healthcare practice groups, Mr. Baxter’s primary focus now is civil tort, health care law, and business litigation.
His experience spans a wide range of cases including mass tort and products liability, personal injury, employment and discrimination litigation, trademark and unfair competition litigation, and bankruptcy. He has played a key role in coordinating the successful defense of a dietary supplemental manufacturer and its officers in over 30 product liability cases.
In his free time Samuel S Baxter plays in a competitive softball league, which occasionally takes him on the road for tournaments. He also plays volleyball and spends time with his dog.
