Sara A. McDermott is a litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson. Ms. McDermott was one of four authors of a letter, signed by nearly 700 law clerks, urging U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to revise judicial guidelines related to reporting workplace misconduct.

In January 2018, the federal judiciary’s administrative branch announced they would review internal policies related to workplace misconduct. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. McDermott clerked for Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and Judge A. Wallace Tashima of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ms. McDermott earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where she served as Discourse editor of the UCLA Law Review and completed the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy.

Ms. McDermott was a Michael T. Masin scholar and a John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellow. She received her B.A. in comparative women’s literature, summa cum laude, from Cornell University. Before attending law school, Ms. McDermott worked as a youth specialist at the YWCA of Greater Austin.
