Scot Burton

Scot Burton has more than 15 years of experience structuring business joint ventures among partners for small to midsize companies. Mr. Burton is first and foremost a lawyer who enjoys helping people meet their goals.

He has the ability to look at things from both a practical and a business standpoint, with an eye toward getting the deal done efficiently.

He has an extensive background in handling equity finance, business, structuring, partnership tax planning and corporate governance in a variety of areas. His practice areas include real estate transactions, business joint ventures, start-ups, reorganizations and corporate separations.

His clients include technology companies, restaurant franchisees, medical groups, real estate developers and investors, baby food manufacturers, candy makers and pillow designers, to name just a few of his varied corporate and partnership clients.

Mr. Burton brings extensive tax planning experience to these transactions to ensure the transaction is structured in the most tax-efficient manner, including regularly addressing equity compensation issues.

In addition to Mr. Burton’s experience in partnership and corporate tax planning, he also practices civil tax controversy and resolution, and has extensive experience in non-profit organization and governance, as well as matters related to tax credit investment and syndication, including historic-rehabilitation and low-income housing tax credits, energy tax credits and State of Georgia entertainment tax credits.

Prior to joining Taylor English, Mr. Burton practiced at Morris, Manning & Martin LLP, and most recently at FisherBroyles LLP, both in Atlanta. Mr. Burton lives in Morningside, in Atlanta, with his wife and four children.
