Scott A. McKinney is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he is a member of the firm’s technology transactions practice. He represents business entities of all sizes in complex commercial and technology transactions, as well as intellectual property matters.
He also has experience negotiating strategic commercial contracts (including distribution, license, joint venture, development, services, and software agreements), and has expertise in assisting companies with intellectual property issues arising from mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and financing transactions.
Scott focuses on new and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, and smart contracts, and is a frequent speaker on those topics. He is a subject-matter specialist in the area of open source software licensing, advising a variety of companies on open source software compliance and usage.
Scott is an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law and teaches a class that he developed on intellectual property and technology transactions. He is also an active member of the Accord Project, which is a global consortium for the development of techno-legal standards for smart contracts, blockchain, and the internet-of-things (IoT).
Prior to joining the firm, Scott was an associate in the intellectual property transactions group and corporate department at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York, where he worked with companies in the communications, media, software, pharmaceutical, fashion, publishing, healthcare, sports, data, education, and technology industries, among others.
