Shaun Hassett

Shaun W. Hassett focuses on complex patent litigation between industry competitors and against non-practicing entities. His experience encompasses numerous technologies, including electrical systems, computer power management, wireless communications, database systems, telecommunications, speech coding, data compression, and network security. He has extensive experience with electronic discovery issues and strategies.

Additionally, Shaun has handled appellate matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he has represented both appellees and appellants. His experience includes oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Shaun received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Dayton School of Law, where he served as Publications Editor of the Law Review. He also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he was a member of the school’s SAE formula racing team.

Shaun is extremely committed to community service. He volunteers with the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, Habitat for Humanity, animal welfare organizations, and numerous Dallas Bar Association committees dedicated to community service.

EXPERIENCE :

• Counsel to one of the world’s largest electronic providers in patent cases in federal district courts, including Texas and California, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
• Counsel to a large computer manufacturer against infringement claims based on patents allegedly essential to wireless standards.
• Representation of one of the world’s largest banks performing detailed non-infringement analysis that resulted in a dismissal of a patent infringement action at no cost to the client.
• Representation of one of the world’s largest computer manufacturers performing detailed non-infringement and invalidity analysis which contributed to a stipulation of non-infringement.
