Sofia Velling

Sofia H. Velling is an associate attorney at Soreff Weinrich Law. She started with the law firm in the fall of 2016. Sofia is fluent in Spanish. Her practice is focused on removal defense, criminal immigration, asylum, waivers, U status, naturalization, I-9 compliance, and family petitions.

Sofia is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington (LBAW). She volunteers for Citizenship Days organized by the AILA Washington State Chapter and Washington New Americans Program and monthly Immigration Law Clinics organized by LBAW. She is also a pro-bono volunteer attorney with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP).

Sofia obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Spanish, cum laude, from Western Washington University and her Juris Doctorate from University of Washington.

During law school, Sofia served on the boards of the Latinx Law Student Association and the Food Law and Policy Association. She was an interpreter for the Immigrant Families Advocacy Project; and worked at the Washington State Office for the Attorney General in the Corrections Division, Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, and the Cannabis Law and Policy Project.

When not at work, Sofia enjoys open water swimming, shopping at the local farmer’s markets, and traveling.
