Sona Patel is an Associate at Fragomen’s New York office, where she practices immigration law and provides strategic counsel to clients on employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant matters.

She handles various complex immigration matters and advises clients on obtaining temporary work visas and permanent residency, including petitions for intracompany transferee and extraordinary ability classification.

Sona’s clients range from start-ups to multinational corporations across a wide array of industries, including financial advisory services, tax, audit, accounting, software and technology, engineering, automotive, legal services, and media and talent representation.

Prior to joining Fragomen, Sona was an Associate at a Philadelphia immigration law firm, where she handled a broad range of employment-based and family-based immigration matters, including: representation of clients in USCIS interviews and EOIR Immigration Court proceedings; extraordinary ability consultations and applications; labor certifications; provisional and hardship inadmissibility waivers and adjustment of status; nonimmigrant visas; adjustment of status for victims of criminal activity; marriage-based applications and fiancé visas; cancellation of removal; affirmative asylum applications; defensive asylum trials; treaty investors; and naturalization applications.

During law school, Sona served on the executive board of the International Law and Human Rights Society. She graduated with Pro Bono Service Honors for her work with HIAS Pennsylvania, where she provided extensive pro bono assistance to undocumented and trafficked minors seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.

Sona also participated in a legal study program in India where she examined legal and human rights issues, attended High Court hearings, and was involved in local social services for refugees.

Sona speaks English and Gujarati.
