Sonja R. Gerrard is an associate in the Seattle office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on intellectual property counseling and patent law. She has more than 20 years of scientific experience that includes positions in academia and the life sciences industry, as well as at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Her areas of expertise include chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, diagnostics, and infectious diseases. Prior to joining the firm, Sonja was an assistant professor at the University of Michigan in the Schools of Public Health and Medicine.
Her laboratory studied hemorrhagic fever viruses and created systems for studying viral replication, the identification of antiviral small molecules, and the development of vaccines. In addition, she taught courses in general virology and diagnostic methods for detection of viruses.
