
Stephanie C. Robinson is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the Consumer Financial Services group. She focuses her practice on a range of matters related to mortgage banking and consumer finance in both the primary and secondary markets.
She represents banks, mortgage lenders and servicers and consumer finance companies in enforcement proceedings before US federal and state agencies. Stephanie also counsels clients on compliance matters involving a variety of issues relating to mortgage lending, servicing and other consumer lending issues.
Stephanie defends companies in connection with federal and state governmental audits, investigations and enforcement proceedings before, among others, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, with particular focus on defense of unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP) and fair lending enforcement matters.
She conducts enterprise-wide CFPB readiness review of companies’ business lines, operations, and products to assess the level of potential risks to consumers and evaluate a company’s compliance management system.
She represents banks, mortgage lenders, mortgage servicers and other consumer financial service providers in examinations by the CFPB. Stephanie counsels clients on federal and state consumer credit laws, including the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Housing Act, Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and others.
She counsels state-chartered banks on state licensing and filing requirements to make and service residential mortgage loans and assist in obtaining necessary business registrations and permissions to establish loan production offices.
Stephanie also performs regulatory compliance due diligence and assists in structuring operations and developing compliance management systems. Prior to attending law school, Stephanie earned a masters degree in art history and worked for the National Endowment for the Arts.
