Stephen J. E. Dew is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling in the electrical and software arts. He has drafted over fifty patent applications in areas such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, digital signal processing, digital advertising and marketing, medical devices, and big data. His experience also includes open source licensing, intellectual property diligence, and invalidity analysis. Mr. Dew focuses his pro-bono practice on immigration matters.
During law school, Mr. Dew was a Staff Member of the North Carolina Law Review and an Articles Editor of the North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology. As a certified clinical law student, Mr. Dew also represented pro-bono clients in trademark prosecution matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Dew is an engineer with over a decade of professional experience in both technical and customer-facing roles. Prior to launching his legal career, he worked as a consulting technical expert for patent infringement cases. Previously, he held the position of Compiler Engineer at Freescale Semiconductor (now NXP), where he worked on a team responsible for a commercial C/C++ compiler and participated in the development of next-generation Digital Signal Processors (DSPs).
Mr. Dew also held the position of Applications Engineer at Freescale, where he optimized customers’ telecommunications software, and the position of Applications Engineer at StarCore LLC, where he provided technical training to customers and managed the software support relationship for one client.
Mr. Dew has knowledge of various software programming languages, including C, C++, Java, Perl, MATLAB, and several assembly languages.
Mr. Dew speaks French and has a basic knowledge of German.
Mr. Dew serves on the board of Georgia Patents.
