Stephen C. Franz devotes his practice to representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation and counseling. He defends businesses against claims involving sex, race, age and disability discrimination; harassment; retaliation; and wrongful termination.
He has defended clients in class actions, wage-and-hour single-plaintiff and PAGA claims. Stephen has represented employers in state and federal lawsuits, private arbitration and administrative proceedings.
He has helped businesses respond to charges and investigations by the DFEH, DLSE and NLRB. He has also assisted in pre-litigation negotiations. He has represented entities of all sizes across a wide array of industries ranging from restaurants to manufacturers and police departments.
In regard to employment law counseling, Stephen advises business owners and human resource professionals on day-to-day employment matters and litigation avoidance.
He provides counsel regarding workplace investigations, employee discipline, disability accommodations, and compliance with California’s varied local, state and federal laws and regulations.
In law school, Stephen was an extern for the Hon. Alan M. Ahart of the United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California. He also served as Editor in Chief of the Pacific Basin Law Journal and as a two-time board member of the Asian/Pacific Islander Law Students Association.
