Steven Glenn Shapiro is an experienced criminal defense attorney in Utah. His practice areas also include sex crime, domestic violence, violent crime, Drug Crimes, Internet Sexual Offenses, Property Crimes, DUI, and federal crime.
He graduated from the Brigham Young University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989. He went on to attend the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in the year 1992.
He started his legal career in 1992 with the law firm Clyde, Pratt & Snow in Salt Lake City and focused on criminal defense in local and national white-collar cases mostly in Federal Trial and Appellate courts.
In 1995, he moved to the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association as a Felony Trial Attorney and begun a practice focused on criminal defense in the State courts. He gained a rich experience in cases ranging from minor infractions to serious offenses in his over 13 years of public defense work.
After obtaining significant courtroom and trial experience and training, he became one of the very few attorneys in Utah that the court appointed to serve as a counsel in death penalty cases. While working i2n this capacity, he successfully negotiated resolutions that avoided the death penalty for his clients on multiple occasions.
Steven G. Shapiro started working with the law firm Keith Barton & Assoc. after leaving public criminal defense work. He continued to focus exclusively on criminal defense in State and Federal Court while working there. He represented clients in several high profile cases ranging from murder to child sexual offenses.
His ability to demonstrate weaknesses in the evidence and dedication to his clients has helped him secure outright dismissals or jury trial not guilty findings for clients facing serious charges such as rape, child sex abuse, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, sodomy on a child, residential burglary and felony drug offenses.
He has obtained the membership of professional associations such as Idaho State Bar, Washington State Bar Association, Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Utah State Bar, and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
He has served as the chairperson of Long Range Planning Committee and Tuesday Night Bar Committee of the Utah State Bar’s Young Lawyers Section. The Utah Business Magazine has named him in the list of Utah Legal Elite- Criminal law in the years 2013, 2014, and 2015. He earned the membership of the in 2015.
Steven Shapiro speaks English and Spanish languages fluently. He holds the license to practice law in the State and Federal courts of Utah, Idaho, and Washington. The Utah Supreme Court has appointed him as a mentor of the young lawyers.
He formed the criminal defense law firm Shapiro & Shapiro PLLC in 2011 with his twin brother and attorney David B. Shapiro. The firm has earned respect from clients, judges, and prosecutors alike over the years.
