Suzanne Driscoll is a partner in the Fort Lauderdale office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where she is a member of the Eminent Domain Practice Group. Suzanne has valuable trial experience and eminent domain law knowledge, having previously served as a senior attorney with the Florida Department of Transportation and the Attorney General’s Office.
Suzanne has represented clients from small, privately-owned businesses to national chains in oil, drugs and consumer products. She helps clients whose property is being taken by the government obtain compensation and protect their property and access rights. Suzanne understands the system and knows how to negotiate and file actions against the Florida Department of Transportation and other agencies.
Suzanne’s also experienced in appellate work. She successfully defended a national tire distributor in an important precedent-setting case that had never been specifically addressed by an appellate court. The court upheld an award of more than $1.7 million in business damages for her client, and for the first time ruled that evidence of the relocation of a business was inadmissible in determining whether to mitigate damages it would otherwise be entitled to from the condemning authority. She later presented a paper on business damage mitigation for CLE International on this case.
