Theresa was drawn to healthcare law because of the impact the healthcare system has on people’s lives. It’s an industry that everyone interacts with in a significant way, and Theresa is interested in understanding how facilities and systems affect access to care.
She has experience representing hospital systems, physician groups and medical schools, and she advises clients on a variety of state and federal regulations, including the confidentiality of health information, fraud and abuse laws, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, and EMTALA.
Theresa truly enjoys interacting with healthcare professionals and administrators and offering them legal support and strategies. Her mission is to address their legal issues so that they can focus on delivering the best care possible.
It’s a mission that fits with her lifelong dedication to giving back: before beginning her legal career, Theresa worked with AmeriCorps VISTA and as an eighth-grade teacher in an underserved community. Today, pro bono work forms an important part of her practice.
Theresa believes strongly in the importance of pro bono work to give back to her community. She often provides pro bono counsel to various legal aid clinics, especially veterans’ clinics.
