Mr. Thomas C. Dempsey became a member of the bar in 1980. After obtaining his J.D. from Emory University, Mr. Dempsey spent a year working for a solo practitioner learning the nuts and bolts of the practice of law.
Following this intensive learning experience, focused mainly on assisting business and commercial clients, Mr. Dempsey began employment with Strother, Weiner and Dwyer, the predecessor to Weiner, Yancey, Dempsey & Diggs, LLP.
Mr. Dempsey became a partner in 1989 and has continued his general practice with the firm since then. Mr. Dempsey was appointed to be a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia in 1991 and has continued in that position to date.
Mr. Dempsey has a general civil practice with an emphasis on eminent domain. Mr. Dempsey represents both condemnors and condemnees in litigation and negotiation relative to complex valuation disputes involving both property and business value issues.
Mr. Dempsey has tried numerous valuation disputes but always encourages his clients to reach agreement where possible. As a result, Mr. Dempsey also has extensive experience closing complex, high dollar real estate transactions. Mr. Dempsey also has had significant experience in the area of appellate practice before both Georgia appellate courts.
Mr. Dempsey was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1955. He moved to New Jersey in 1963 and attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating in 1977 with a double major in Economics and Philosophy. Mr. Dempsey moved to Atlanta to attend law school at Emory University, graduating in 1980. He is married to Elyse Sharfman, and they have 2 children, Samantha and Jacob.
