
Timothy M. Cronin is an attorney in the San Francisco office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he advises clients regarding energy policy and regulations and on issues relating to the development and financing of clean energy projects and distributed energy resources, with a focus on the community choice aggregation, community energy, energy storage, and demand management sectors.
Tim specifically provides counsel to clean energy and sustainable infrastructure companies as they develop and negotiate power purchase and energy service agreements for both utility-scale projects and distributed energy resources, including solar energy installations (behind-the-meter, community-scale, and utility-scale), energy storage facilities, wind farms, virtual power plants, demand response services, microgrids, smart home devices, and other advanced clean energy technologies.
In doing so, he analyzes and advises clients regarding applicable federal and state policy and regulatory frameworks. Tim also represents clients in connection with tax equity and debt financings involving clean energy projects and distributed energy resources. As part of the more than 1,000 megawatts of utility-scale and more than $500 million of distributed-scale renewable energy project financings Tim has advised on, he has specifically counseled clients regarding community choice aggregator power purchase agreements and regulations, as well as community solar regulatory frameworks and customer agreements.
Before attending law school, Tim worked at the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), where he promoted international partnerships among government actors, renewable energy companies, and financiers as the organization’s manager of international programs.
He has significant experience in the People’s Republic of China, having studied at Peking University in 2006, taught English in Jiangsu Province in 2008, and managed ACORE’s U.S.-China Program from 2009 to 2011.
