Tom Mueller, also known as Thomas Mueller, is an experienced attorney and Senior Counsel at the Alperin Law in Norfolk, Virginia. He focuses on the areas of Estate Planning, Elder Law, and Real Estate law. He served as a Circuit Court Judge in Illinois for 21 years from September 1995 to August 2016.
He presided over courtrooms in Kane, Kendall and DeKalb Counties, and also worked in every type of subject matter court. He was also the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Division at the Kendall County Courthouse and the Kane County Court. He effectuated settlements in many cases during stints in Civil and Chancery Divisions and retired from the Bench in August 2016.
He moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 2016, joined his current law firm, and re-engaged in the practice of law in the areas of Estate Planning and Real Estate, which he enjoyed the most as an attorney before becoming a judge.
He finds satisfaction in helping individuals and families build toward their futures and plan responsibly. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the year 1979.
He went on to attend the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in May 1982. He started his legal career by serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney and prosecuted felonies and misdemeanors in Adult as well as Juvenile Courts.
Tom Mueller began his private practice by working as an attorney at the law firm Lindner, Speers, and Reuland, P.C. in Aurora, Illinois and worked there for almost ten years. While working there, he started getting involved in the community and served as the chairperson on many not-for-profit Boards. He also became a frequent speaker at local and State Bar association seminars.
