Slatter Law Firm founder Vann H. Slatter, Esq., grew up in the rough city of Stockton, CA. From humble beginnings, Vann grew up working agriculture in the fields of Northern California, selling peanuts at local baseball games, and as a self-taught musician, started a band called The Family Tree, recording an album for RCA. Music, however, was not enough for Vann Slatter.
Mr. Slatter worked his way through a bachelor’s degree from California State University Northridge. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from San Fernando College of Law.
After going into private practice in 1979, Mr. Slatter made California State Law in the case of Mary M. v. City of Los Angeles. Mr. Slatter represented a woman who was sexually assaulted by an on-duty police officer.
Before DNA evidence, and with not much more than his client’s word against that of a veteran LAPD officer, Attorney Slatter spent almost a decade battling for his client all the way to the California Supreme Court.
Finnaly, in 1989, Vann Slatter and his team were able to obtain a verdict for Mary, and forever changed the law regarding the scope of employment of police officers in California.
This case is still used to this day. Over the course of his more than 40 years of practicing law, Vann Slatter and Slatter Law Firm have obtained millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for those he has represented.
