W. McIlwaine Thompson Jr. practices business and corporate law representing companies in diverse fields including biotechnology, high-tech, education, energy, and manufacturing. He assists entrepreneurs in preparing appropriate organizational structures, managing federal and state securities issues relating to financing their businesses, negotiating investment terms and conditions for such financings, and drafting contracts associated with the businesses.
Mac serves on the boards of many privately held companies and has been active in numerous nonprofit organizations in the Charlottesville area, including the Community Investment Collaborative, a Charlottesville-based education and micro-finance organization, University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education Foundation, and the Heart and Vascular Center, also at UVa.
He is a member and former chairman of the boards of directors of both Ash Lawn Highland Summer Opera Festival and the Tuesday Evening Concert Series. Mac also serves as a member of the Audit Committee of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia, is an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, and is a member of the President’s Advisory Council at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond.
