W. Thad Adams is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and before the United States Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel of the Library of Congress, Thad is an intellectual property lawyer with more than 40 years of experience assisting clients with worldwide portfolio management, counseling, and enforcement related to trademarks, trade dress, and branding.
He has a deep understanding of how client needs can evolve, and he guides them through the most effective and efficient course of action to protect their intellectual property rights. In addition, Thad is a North Carolina Certified Mediator, and a member of the International Trademark Association mediator network, an alternative dispute resolution resource for members of the association and the general public involved in trademark disputes.
Renowned as a leader in his field, Thad has been retained by other patent counsel to evaluate litigation positions and offer expert testimony in several patent infringement cases and he has presented dozens of presentations on patent, trademark and copyright topics before legal, industrial and trade groups.
Thad was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina where he began his professional practice with a large firm, building his own intellectual property law firm over a span of more than 30 years.
He has drafted hundreds of patent applications in all mechanical and many electrical fields. In 2011, Thad, and a team of attorneys and staff joined Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, where they are part of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group and Thad is co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group.
