Walter L. Williams concentrates his practice in health care and business transactions involving health care providers, both for-profit and tax-exempt and including hospital affiliations, confidentiality issues (including HIPAA), medical staff and bylaws issues, medical records, licensure, Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse, Stark self-referral limitations, health care contracting, including physician recruitment and employment agreements, compliance, recovery audit contractor advice, and general health care issues.
Additionally, Mr. Williams’ has had significant involvement in real estate related and other commercial transactions and financings, including title, contracts, and other documentation, closings, and tax-exempt public and private financings.
EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive experience in preparing employment, leasing, service, recruitment, and other agreements with physicians, as well as practice acquisitions and other affiliations, including addressing related Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute and other fraud and abuse issues
- Represented client in the transfer of an entire hospital campus to another hospital and the conversion of a medical office building into a condominium and the subsequent sale of a condominium unit
- Represented clients in matters involving self-disclosure of billing inaccuracies and one payment refund to Medicare and Medicaid
- Representation of clients in the sale of assets of a substantial independent and assisted living facility and related nursing home which necessitated the defeasance of publicly held tax-exempt indebtedness
- Provided legal services in connection with the sale and lease of property for the development of medical office buildings as part of a new hospital campus, and assisted in the sale of property, with restrictions, to a local municipality for the development of a police and fire substation on the campus
