Wendell Maddrey brings significant experience in international corporate and financial transactions to his clients. Wendell is the head of White & Case’s global Oil and Gas Industry Group. He regularly advises leading industry participants, including Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Hess Corporation, Occidental Petroleum, Qatar Petroleum and Pertamina, on their most significant projects.
He has lead transactional teams on the successful development and financing of numerous large-scale refinery, petrochemical and LNG facilities. He also provides guidance on a range of compliance and regulatory issues affecting oil and gas companies.
Wendell is a former head of the Firm’s Sovereigns Practice. He represents sovereign countries and state-owned entities in the rescheduling of official and commercial debt, as well as the financing for transactions and infrastructure projects.
He has offered his insight and perspective to pioneering and emerging states in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. He has also counseled creditors regarding the rescheduling of the sovereign debt of Belize and Grenada, and the restructuring of commercial debt owed by private sector borrowers in Southeast Asia and Latin America.
In the project development arena, Wendell acts on behalf of sponsors, lenders, sovereign governments and state-owned companies. These transactions commonly center on privatizations, strategic stake sales, concession arrangements and public-private partnerships.
Wendell was the Executive Partner of the White & Case office in Jakarta, Indonesia for three years. He has been based in the Firm’s Stockholm and Washington, DC offices and has spent considerable time on the ground in the Middle East over a 20-year period. He also served for a number of years as the partner in charge of lawyer assignments to the Firm’s international offices.
