William Ward Bucher IV is a litigation associate whose practice focuses on intellectual property and emerging issues in interactive entertainment. Mr. Bucher is a member of the Video Game Bar Association. Mr. Bucher joined Debevoise in 2015. Mr. Bucher regularly speaks and writes on legal issues involving intellectual property, technology, and privacy as they relate to video games and interactive entertainment.
Recent speaking engagements include presenting “Influencers & the FTC Guidelines,” at the Video Game Bar Association Summit (May, 2018), “Social Media Influencers and Non-traditional Marketing: Legal Pitfalls and Loopholes,” at Game Developers Conference (March, 2018), “eSports: Business Nuances and Legal Challenges” at the Chicago Video Game Law Summit (June, 2017) and “Tips for Managing Legal Risk as a Growing Developer and Best Practices for Using Social Media and Other Non-traditional Marketing to Promote Your Game” via a Gamkedo live-stream (May, 2017).

Mr. Bucher received his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago in 2015. While in law school, Mr. Bucher served as Chair of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and on the Hinton Moot Court Board. He graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in 2011.
