William Humphreys Jr. is a past chair of Alston & Bird’s litigation department. He concentrates his practice on complex class action, commercial, securities and toxic tort litigation. In addition to his extensive trial experience in these areas.
Mr. Humphreys’ ADR experience includes mediation of an environmental contamination class action suit involving 50,000 tons of steel dust adjacent to a school and residential neighborhood, and arbitration of a $9 million suit involving fraudulent representation and an insurance commission.
He has served as an adjunct professor of litigation at Emory University School of Law and has written on such topics as financial institution exposure to claims for aiding securities fraud, aiding and abetting liability of accountants in securities fraud cases, choosing the best state for determination of insurance coverage of punitive damage awards; and directors’ and officers’ liability – exposure and protection.
Mr. Humphreys received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University and his law degree from The University of Tennessee School of Law. Mr. Humphreys clerked for The Honorable Robert M. McRae, United States District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee upon graduation from law school.
