William (Bill) J. Robinson is a partner and intellectual property litigation lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where his practice focus is patent litigation. He has litigated over 150 patent cases, including 85 in electronics and computer technologies.
He has litigated over a dozen cases in Texas, including the Eastern District. Bill has over 125 reported decisions. His patent jury verdicts include a $100 million award.
He also has extensive experience in copyright, trademark, trade secret litigation, and FTC deceptive claims as well as intellectual property counseling and licensing.
Bill is chair of the firm’s IP Litigation practice and is also a member of the Privacy, Security & Information Management Practice.
Prior to joining Foley, Bill was a partner at the Los Angeles law firms of Mayer, Brown Rowe & Maw; Graham & James; and Poms, Smith, Lande & Rose.

Bill graduated from Loyola University School of Law, Los Angeles (J.D., 1978) and the University of California, Los Angeles (B.S.E.E., cum laude, 1974 and M.S.E.E., 1975).

Representative Matters :
- Foley was involved in patent and trade secret enforcement action involving semiconductor wafer manufacturing technologies in the Northern District of California.
- Defense of patent infringement case in the Eastern District of Texas filed against Foley’s client, United Online, Inc. and their portfolio of internet companies, including Net Zero, Inc., and Juno Online Services, Inc.
- Foley was the lead firm in the defense of product advertising claim case brought by FTC against Foley’s client, Lights of America, Inc. regarding the light output and expectancy of their LED bulbs.
