Zachary R. Harkin is an Associate in the Firm’s Labor and Employee Benefits practice. Zach commenced work for the Firm in 2007 as a law clerk as he pursued his Juris Doctor with a concentration in labor law and employee benefits.
Mr. Harkin assists labor organizations and multiemployer benefit plans with a full-range of public and private labor and employee benefit matters arising under the National Labor Relations Act, the Railway Labor Act, the NYS Public Employees’ Fair Employment Act, the Labor Management Relations Act, the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, among other statutes.
He has experience with a wide variety of labor and employee benefit issues, including labor disputes, collective bargaining negotiations, employee grievances, contractual arbitrations, agency proceedings, internal union disputes and compliance issues, and multiemployer benefit plan compliance issues.
Zach has also been involved in numerous labor and employee benefit litigation of all types in state and federal courts, and obtained many successful results for his clients in cases regarding ERISA delinquent contributions collections claims, defense of breach of the duty of fair representation claims, defense of actions to stay arbitration, and many more.
He litigates frequently in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and also been admitted pro hac vice in other Federal Districts, including the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Western District of North Carolina, and the District Court for the District of Columbia.
Zach received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude and with department honors, from the State University of New York, College at Oneonta, and his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law. At Hofstra University School of Law, he concentrated his studies on labor and employment law, including an independent study on recovering delinquent contributions owed to multiemployer ERISA benefit funds.
Zach is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and New York City Bar Association, and their respective Labor and Employment sections.
