Alexa Chu Clinton is a Technology & IP Transactions associate in Weil’s Silicon Valley office. Ms. Clinton participates in the representation of clients in a variety of industries in matters relating to the licensing, acquisition, development, sale, use, and commercial exploitation of intellectual property.
She has experience in private equity, M&A and other corporate transactions as well as in stand-alone intellectual property transactions. Ms. Clinton has participated in handling the IP and technology aspects of:
- Adobe’s acquisitions of Fotolia, Aviary, and the Digital Analytix business of comScore
- eBay’s acquisitions of PhiSix and the machine translation business of AppTek
- Facebook’s $16 billion acquisition of WhatsApp
- GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. in its acquisition of the global commercial semiconductor technology business of IBM
- Lenovo’s $2.9 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility
- LIN Media’s $2.6 billion combination with Media General
- Opera Software’s acquisitions of AdColony, SurfEasy, Yvolver, and adQuota
- ORIX USA in its acquisition of Lancaster Pollard Holdings LLC
- Samsung’s acquisition of SmartThings
- Synopsys’ acquisitions of Coverity, Goanna Software, Atrenta, Winter Logic, and Codenomicon, and asset acquisitions from Quotium Technologies and Silicon Vision
- Yahoo’s acquisitions of Flurry, Sparq, Tomfoolery, Cooliris, and BrightRoll
Ms. Clinton graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Economics and Communication and received her J.D., with honors, from The University of Chicago Law School, where she served as Comment Editor on The University of Chicago Law Review and on the board of the Intellectual Property Law Society. While at Stanford, she studied the economic framework of intellectual property protection and digital technology.
