In October, 2012, Ben opened Bennett Murphy Law Incorporated, an independent practice. As Principal of BMLI, Ben provides clients with advice in evaluating existing or potential transactions and developing and implementing optimal litigation strategies.
He represents clients in out-of-court and in-court restructurings. He also serves as a litigation consultant and project manager in complex litigation. Ben offers services as an expert witness, as a neutral in dispute resolution, and as a fiduciary.
In the firm’s first year of operations, BMLI and Bennett Murphy were named among the Best Lawyers in America in the category of “Litigation – Bankruptcy.” He is an prominent a lawyer with a 32-year career at major firms.
While at Latham & Watkins, Ben was active in numerous high-profile matters. He represented the official creditors committee in the successfully reorganizations of Continental Airlines and Sizzler Restaurants.
He was counsel to the Bondholders Committee in the bankruptcy of Orange County, California. While at the Hennigan, Bennett & Dorman firm, Ben was counsel to the Chapter 7 trustee in the law-firm bankruptcy of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison.
He has also represented formal and informal committees of debt holders in cases such as Dade Behring Holdings, Solutia, and Stations Casinos, among others. He regularly represents major distressed debt and real estate investment funds.
