
Since 1990, immigration law attorney Elizabeth Barna has assisted hundreds of foreign nationals and their families achieve legal status in the United States under U.S. law.
A graduate of the George Washington University and New York Law School, Elizabeth Barna is committed to helping clients through the complex federal immigration process. In addition to her immigration law practice, Elizabeth Barna is also recognized as a distinguished professional in her field. She is a past Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)’s New York chapter and has chaired and been a member of several of its committees.
AILA is a national organization of over 10,000 members involved in teaching and practicing immigration law. Its members advocate for a fair and reasonable immigration policy throughout the United States. Elizabeth Barna has served on AILA’s Board of Governors. Elizabeth Barna was one of a handful of members invited by AILA’s president to serve on its Transparency Task Force.
Elizabeth Barna has been awarded the AILA Certificate of Achievement as a Pro Bono Guardian, noting her compassion, time, and professional skill has strengthened her community and has contributed to the provision of justice for all persons. Elizabeth Barna is an Asylum mentor to all AILA members.
She is active in the Juvenile Docket program of AILA NY’s Pro Bono Committee. She guest lectures on the practice of Asylum law at New York Law School, and is a volunteer for its Justice Action Center’s Safe Passage Project. Elizabeth Barna has served on AILA’s National Asylum Committee.
She currently serves on AILA’s National Executive Office for Immigration Review Liaison Committee, and has served on this committee since 2012. She lectures on Removal Proceedings, Asylum, Convention Against Torture, Violence Against Women Act, and T and U Visas.
Elizabeth Barna is a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Immigration and Nationality Law Committee.
Elizabeth Barna is a recognized expert on the subject of asylum law. She is a frequent speaker at seminars on asylum-related issues including those sponsored by the publishers of “Immigration Daily,” a leading publication in the immigration law field. “Immigration Daily” reaches an audience of over 35,000 members.
