J. Allen Douglas

Allen Douglas has extensive experience practicing in federal court. He has drafted appellate briefs and responses for submission to federal appellate courts on plaintiffs’ claims of : Employment discrimination, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Sexual harassment.

His experience includes drafting memoranda and motions for commercial litigation, including matters in bankruptcy, oil and gas, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) class actions.

Prior to joining Littler, Allen served as a career law clerk to the Hon. Lesley Wells of the U. S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, and as a term clerk for the Hon. Robert B. Krupansky of the U. S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. In both capacities he drafted opinions and orders for the Court responding to every form of procedural motion.

Allen attended oral arguments, conferred with the judge on legal issues, and assisted the district judge in trials, hearings, and in all civil and criminal matters. He has worked with party counsel toward settlement, on case management conferences, and on resolving discovery issues. Prior to clerking, Allen worked as an appellate law clerk for a law firm in Houston.

Allen has taught appellate practice at the Case Western Reserve University Law School, and lectured at Rutgers University and Cornell Law School on legal history, law and society, and legal research and writing. He has authored and presented papers at various conferences in the U. S. and Canada.
