Jamie Baskerville Martin has provided strategic counsel to a wide range of health care providers, including hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, specialty and outpatient surgical hospitals, physicians and physician groups, and joint venture entities. The chair of Williams Mullen’s Health Care Section, Jamie combines her experience with an extensive understanding of the health care marketplace to provide practical advice on transactions, operational issues and regulatory compliance.

For many health care clients, she effectively serves as outside general counsel, representing them in both strategic and day-to-day matters and managing the efforts of colleagues in a wide range of practice areas. She also works hand-in-hand with in-house counsel on specialized regulatory and transactional matters. She assists in evaluating and pursuing mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other relationships, and strategically assessing the challenges and opportunities presented by various state and federal regulations.

Jamie has particular knowledge of Certificate of Public Need (COPN) and licensure issues; Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute matters; and complex transactions among health care providers, including the antitrust elements of such transactions. Jamie served on the board of governors for the Virginia Bar Association (VBA) and is immediate past chair of the VBA’s Health Law Section Council.

She is a member of the Virginia State Bar’s Study Committee on the Future of Law and chairs the VBA’s Wellness Task Force. She served as the advisor to the Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources’ Certificate of Public Need Work Group. She is a frequent speaker at health care industry events, legal programs, and law schools. Jamie is a board member and executive committee member for Goochland Cares, and she is pro bono counsel to World Pediatric Project.

Jamie received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Dillard Legal Writing Fellow and received the Daniel Rosenbloom Award for academic assistance to other students. She received a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from James Madison University.
