Ms. Joan Kupersmith Larkin is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. She has more than 30 years of experience in domestic and international trademark, copyright, unfair competition matters, and related litigation. For almost 20 years, she was a member of the U.S. Commerce Department’s Advisory Committee for Trademark Affairs.
Ms. Larkin is involved in all areas of trademark and copyright prosecution, counseling, licensing, enforcement and protection. She has prosecuted well over 1,000 U.S. trademark applications and thousands of foreign trademark applications in most countries around the world and has developed, implemented and coordinated worldwide enforcement and anti-counterfeiting programs on behalf of major entertainment properties.
In addition, Ms. Larkin has extensive experience in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and in counseling clients on Internet issues and has prosecuted numerous UDRP/ICANN proceedings.
Ms. Larkin’s clients include major entertainment companies, sports teams, restaurant chains, food companies, personal care product companies, and U.S. and foreign entities involved in a wide variety of industries, including automotive products, aerospace and defense industries, as well as non-profit organizations.
Ms. Larkin began her legal career as a Trademark Examining Attorney with the U.S. Trademark Office, where she was president of the Trademark Society. Ms. Larkin is active in a number of professional organizations, and has served as Director of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association (LAIPLA).
Ms. Larkin has served on New York University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and has been a member of NYU’s President’s Council/California Council. She presently serves as President and Director of the Seyfarth Shaw’s Charitable Foundation, as well as having served as a Vice President and Director of the California Bar Foundation.
