Joseph Pope represents companies and individuals in complex civil, criminal, and constitutional litigation, with a particular emphasis on appeals and advanced motions practice. He has represented parties in high stakes cases at every level of the judiciary, including the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Joseph has represented clients at trial and on appeal in a broad spectrum of complex business and commercial litigation, including antitrust litigation, intellectual property litigation, class actions, bankruptcy and creditor rights litigation, and business and partnership disputes. He has represented Fortune 500 companies in complex multi-district litigation involving claims of breach of contract, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets and various Lanham Act claims.

In addition, he has represented business clients in multi-venue litigation involving a variety of issues, including claims of fraud, business conspiracy and violations of employment and licensing agreements.

Joseph has also developed a sophisticated white-collar criminal practice, representing clients in a variety of complex matters, including prosecutions for various tax crimes, honest-services fraud, violations of the Hobbs Act, and conspiracy to commit bank, mail, and wire fraud. He has particular experience in handling sentencing matters, including forfeiture and restitution issues.

Joseph received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Richmond School of Law, summa cum laude, and served as articles editor for the University of Richmond Law Review. He was a member of the Walter F. McNeill Law Honor Society. He received a Bachelor of Music degree in music performance from Queens University, summa cum laude.

Prior to joining the firm, Joseph served as a law clerk to the Honorable Gerald B. Tjoflat, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Honorable Harvey E. Schlesinger, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the Honorable Stephen S. Mitchell, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Joseph has authored many articles published in national and regional publications on a variety of legal topics, including appellate practice and procedure, civil procedure, class actions, evidence, federal jurisdiction and constitutional law.
