Kyle Way is a registered patent attorney focused on aiding technology companies in protecting their intellectual assets through the patent process. For over 18 years, Kyle has worked as both in-house and outside patent counsel in the preparation and prosecution of electrical, computer, and software patents.
Before joining FisherBroyles, Kyle worked at law firms based in the Minneapolis and Denver metropolitan areas, as well as in the legal departments of Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies. He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of domestic and foreign patents, primarily in the electrical, computer, and software arts. Kyle also has experience in various other areas of patent law, including litigation support, patentability searches, freedom-to-operate opinions, infringement opinions, and IP due diligence.
Kyle’s experience involves a wide range of technologies, including computer systems, computer software applications, communication networks, electronic test equipment, data storage systems, semiconductor devices, integrated circuit process technology, satellite television systems, online marketplace systems, enterprise resource planning systems, database systems, machine learning systems, and mechanical devices.
Prior to beginning his career in law, Kyle worked as an electrical design engineer for 15 years with several engineering companies. He began in the magnetic disk drive industry with Storage Technology Corporation, designing electronics hardware for medium and large disk drive systems. Kyle then worked for Pentax Technologies Corporation, developing hardware and firmware for write-once and rewritable optical disk drives.
He then joined HP as a firmware engineer on a joint project with Sony and Philips in developing an optical disk drive conforming to the DVD+RW format. Kyle was a co-inventor on US patents covering the defect management scheme employed in the DVD+RW standard.
