Michael Marino

Michael F. Marino is a partner in the Labor & Employment Department in the New York office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. He represents multinational corporations, small businesses, key executives, professional athletes and celebrities on a nationwide basis in all types of employment related and other professional services matters.

Nationwide, he has tried court cases, arbitrations and administrative proceedings in many jurisdictions, and advised clients on employment issues in all types of workplace settings, from manufacturing to financial and retail services. He has also served as chief negotiator in numerous collective bargaining negotiations at a variety of workplaces across the country. Mr. Marino is also a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment.

Mr. Marino is a trial lawyer. He has successfully tried over twenty cases in federal court jurisdictions across the country, along with many administrative proceedings and labor arbitrations. He also specializes in drafting and negotiating executive employment agreements; providing strategic labor advice to companies; counseling to minimize litigation; trying arbitrations and handling mediations to resolve complex civil issues.

Mr. Marino prevailed in the United States Supreme Court, reversing an adverse decision of the Ninth Circuit. He has also successfully argued federal court appellate cases in the Fourth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals, including reversing a decision of the NLRB and being awarded attorneys’ fees in the Fourth Circuit.

He has served as chief negotiator and strategist for management with many labor unions and locals of the United Auto Workers (UAW); Local 3 of the IBEW; Local 30 of the Operating Engineers; the International Association of Machinists (IAM); the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW); the United Brotherhood of Electrical workers (UE); UNITEHERE; (SEIU) Service Employees International Unions; and the Teamsters, among many other unions.

He is the author and co-author of many publications including “Workplace Law: The Employers Guide” with editions in Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and  Virginia. Prior to entering private practice Mr. Marino served proudly as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.
