Rod Kanter helps cities, counties and other public bodies raise funds, improve services, and grow their economies. As a bond lawyer, Rod provides the full gamut of tax, securities, and bond structuring services so his clients can borrow funds in the most fluid, efficient manner possible.
He has particular expertise advising clients within and outside Alabama on federal securities laws and compliance. His clients include the State of Alabama and several state-level authorities, healthcare systems, utility boards, cities and counties, universities, industrial development boards, commercial development authorities, and others.
Rod also helps governments attract industry using tax-sharing agreements, mixed-use commercial and retail development ventures, industrial development incentives, and other types of complex public private partnerships.
He has helped communities across the state succeed on projects big and small by designing arrangements that enable the project’s success while protecting the public’s interests. Rod also designs downtown and other community programs to revitalize distressed or underutilized areas.
Rod is an active lecturer in the public finance and economic development arenas, including for the Alabama City/County Management Association, GFOAA, and the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL).
He is a member of NABL’s Steering Committee, serves as Chairman of NABL’s Fundamentals of Municipal Bonds seminar, and served as Chairman of NABL’s General Law and Practice Committee. Rod is a Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel.
