Tina Monshipour Foster is an Iranian-American civil rights attorney who specializes in International Human Rights and Constitutional Law. Since September 11, 2001, Tina’s work has focused on defending the rights of Muslim minorities who have been unfairly targeted by U.S. national security initiatives.
Following law school, Tina served as a law clerk for Hon. Delissa A. Ridgway at the United States Court of International Trade. From 2001-2004, Tina was an associate at the New York office of the law firm Clifford Chance US LLP, where she practiced complex federal litigation and white collar criminal defense. From November 2004 to May 2006, she was an attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights, where she was a co-founder of the Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative.
In 2006, Tina founded the International Justice Network, a non-profit organization that provides legal assistance to survivors of human rights abuses and their families, advocates for universal human rights, and promotes the rule of law through a network of legal experts, non-governmental organizations, and local activists across the globe.
During 2008-09, Tina also worked as a consultant for Yale Law School as Litigation Coordinator for the National Litigation Project of the Allard K. Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic.
Tina received her B.A. with honors from Boston University, and is a graduate of BU’s Modern British Studies Program at St. Anne’s College, Oxford University. Tina graduated from Cornell Law School in 2000, where she was an editor of the Cornell International Law Journal, and elected President of the Cornell Law Student’s Association.
Tina sits on the Advisory Boards of the Afghanistan Human Rights Organization, Child Foundation, and the Muslim Civil Liberties Union. She is a member of Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow and the Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals.
Tina is admitted to the bars of the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association.
