Alissa Riego received her Bachelor’s Degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Miami and her Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. While in law school, Alissa interned for the Honorable Bonnie H. Macleod at Suffolk County Superior Court in Boston, Massachusetts.
She also served as editor in chief for the Harvard Latino Law Review and as an article editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology. After law school, Alissa began her career in private practice at Holland & Knight LLP’s Miami office as a litigation attorney, where she focused on commercial litigation and white collar criminal defense matters.
Before joining Podhurst, Alissa served as a law clerk to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan on the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Alissa’s practice focusses primarily on complex commercial litigation matters, including class actions, legal and accounting malpractice defense, and white collar criminal defense.
Alissa also has experience handling personal injury cases and representing media clients defending against defamation claims, protecting privileged information, and advising on other newsgathering issues.
She has represented both corporate and individual clients in matters involving the False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, internal investigations, healthcare fraud, wire fraud, and securities fraud.
Alissa has authored and published several articles on tort law, privacy law, commercial law, and freedom of the press in both local and national publications. She is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of Miami’s Business Law Department, where she teaches Introduction to Business Law, an undergraduate level course designed to provide students with an overview on U.S. tort and contract law.
