Bryan Cokeley

Bryan R. Cokeley concentrates his practice in the area of employment and labor law. In addition to counseling employers, Mr. Cokeley has tried more than 40 cases in the state and federal courts of West Virginia. He has also appeared before administrative agencies such as the West Virginia Human Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Mr. Cokeley is the Chair of the firm’s Labor Department and is Managing Member of the Charleston office.

EXPERIENCE:

• Represented health care facility through trial and appellate proceedings in defense of allegations of retaliatory discharge, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and violation of the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act brought by former employee
• Defended a major utility in a gender discrimination case that went to trial in the Circuit Court of Kanawha County, West Virginia
• Represented a large coal company against an executive who allegedly violated a covenant-not-to-compete
• Tried more than a dozen actions before the administrative law judges of the West Virginia Human Rights Commission on various claims of age, race, gender and disability discrimination
• Defended major utility company against petition to enforce arbitration award
• Defended health care facility in a race and national origin discrimination case through completion of jury trial
