Jency Mathew

Jency Mathew enjoys a mixed practice of patent litigation, patent prosecution, and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Jency is actively involved in patent litigation before federal district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

She has been involved in numerous stages of litigation, including pre-litigation analysis, developing infringement and validity strategies, drafting written discovery, preparing witnesses for deposition, preparing expert discovery, drafting motions, and participating in hearings. She also works on post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, specifically assisting with inter partes review (IPR) and covered business method (CBM) proceedings.

Jency’s patent prosecution practice involves strategic patent counseling in a broad array of technical fields, including medical devices, computer software, information processing, consumer electronics, wireless communication, automotive, and other mechanical and electrical systems.

She routinely interviews inventors to develop invention disclosures, drafts new patent applications in a broad range of complex technologies, and prosecutes new and existing patent applications.

Prior to joining Finnegan, Jency worked as a patent intern for Medtronic (legacy Covidien), providing support for the company’s patent portfolio. Jency also conducted research related to the use of shape memory polymers for the clinical treatment of fusiform aneurysms.

Jency is passionately engaged in pro bono work. She has devoted time to assisting refugees with asylum representation through Human Rights First. In law school, Jency was actively involved with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.
